Good evening all,
I get out of car and walking away I notice fluid dripping from underneath.
The leak is coming from behind oil pan. It's not oil, and the best I can tell its not coming from transmission....fluid isn't red.
Is it power steering fluid? Coolant? Any ideas? This is the first time I've had any problems of this kind.
2.7T Quattro 137k miles.

quick interweb diagnosis, with the information you've given, is auxiliary coolant pump. common failure/leak point.

Post up some pics when you get a chance. Just so you know the trans. fluid in your car is not red. It is different shades of brown depending on the age. It can be confused with engine oil but will smell different. Also be sure to check for oil leaks from the top of the engine working its way down the bellhousing area..........valve cover gaskets, cam adjuster seals, cam seals.

Coolant leaks are usually pink or orange in color. It will leave a stain in its path that sometimes looks white.

 

I have the same issue (1998 A6)

My coolant resevoir level is fine. How does the auxillary pump get filled, how do I truly diagnose it? (yes mine was pink and smells sweet like coolant).
