Default 03 A-4 NO HEAT /NO coolant flow

I have a 03 A-4/All wheel /stick .. 60,000 miles ,had to add some coolant the other day and was bleeding the hose going into the Heater core no air bubbles were coming out no nothing so removed the hoses going into the heater core ( with the heater on high ) The motor running no coolant coming out of the hose ?? Is there a valve after the thermostat in-between the heater core ? I was thinking the hose just came right off the thermostat housing straight into the heater core .. Am I missing something ? I thinking weak water pump .. Thanks..

OK if the thermostat was not hot enough to be open it would not let the coolant to flow through the hose into the heater core so if I remove the hose and leave the motor running when the thing gets hot coolant should come out of the hose .just maybe it was not hot enough to be open and I have a clogged up core .. Does any of this sound right ??? Thanks
