Hello All,
I have a 97 A4t and am having some troubles with it. When I drive the car for a while it starts to shutter as if it was running out of gas. It only does it when I am at idle, slowing down to stop, or idling and taking off slowly like at a stop light. Sometimes it even stalls. It has a full tank, but it seems like it is a fuel issue. it seems to be okay when driving on the hwy or at least going faster than idle speed. Once it does stall, it takes a few cranks to get it started. Also, im getting no check engine light. Any ideas out there? What to check? And where do I start?

 

let us know what engine is in it, manual or auto, how many miles, and anything else to get an idea of what is going on.

 

Not that it was an audi but I've had similiar problems with a vw passat when fuelpump was dying

I would suggest the fuel filter and fuel pump. Good luck

 

I also have an 1997 Audi A4. Few weeks ago I ran into a very similar problem. Car was hard to start, shaking roughly, sometimes stalling until I got going on the road, also with no check engine light. Eventually while I was trying to figure out what was wrong, my car wouldn't start. Turns out all it was was some bad gas and possibly some water in the gas (im not sure why as I've used this gas before and its been completely fine.) Just thought I'd put this out there because the problems seems to be similar.
