1999 A.3 1.8T Loos of Power
Hi there,
I have a 1999 1.8T A3 with approx 80,000 miles. As usual the turbo comes in and has the usual effect on accelration but only to about 3500 rpm. At this point the power dies/is not constant and it is then stuttery/intermittent progress to the end of each gear.
I have recently had a full service where sparks and airfilter were changed. It's quite a strange feeling and doesn't necessarily feel like something mechanincal - more like something is restricting the turbo.
With the window down, the trbo sounds normal but it is asif its boost isn't getting into/being allowed into the engine to deliver the added power. I initially though of perhaps a leaking boost tube or something like that but then have heard about a coil pack. Any thoughts? Would rather avoid a costly and perhaps incorrect diagnosis from a dealer etc.
