2000 Audi TT - no crank
 

Hi,

I have a 2000 Audi TT that I have had for several years, I usually do my own work on cars but not on the TT as I haven't found a reliable way to get it up on axle stands and everything is pretty tight in there.

I have had it sitting for a while and I would just charge the battery and it would start up ok. Then the battery stopped taking a charge (I wonder if I crossed the charging cables but I don't think so) so I bought a new battery and put it in as I intend to use it more now while I work on my jeep.

All the lights come on, radio etc, but no crank, I think I hear the fuel pump. The battery has plenty of charge.

What could it be, the central locking still works so I guess the key is registered, what else should I check. I don't think it can be the starter as it was starting before.
