Default 2001 A6 4.2 - undercarriage problem

Is anyone familiar w/ this problem: near the front of the car's underbelly, there is a plastic piece that hangs low. I pulled over a curb no problem, but when I backed-out, the piece caught on the curb and yanked the front bumper, slightly separating it from it's moorings. While aesthetically it's noticable, the only other issue affecting the car's function is the alignment of driver's side door--the body and the door rub now w/ an audible squeak. Nonetheless, the repair shops are quoting $2000 - 2500 to fix.

I've heard that this has been a widely recognized issue but Audi says there is/was no recall to remedy it. I think it's specific to the 4.2 (lower profile, maybe an air intake design?).

Can anyone offer advice??

Are you talking about the undertray? It helps control airflow under the car, and threw the engine bay.

If you just broke the plastic tray, they are around $200. Only take about 15min to install. I bet you have more damage then that for the $2000 to fix it.
