2001 A6 Oil Level Warning
Hello all.
This is my first post to the forum. So Hello all! I wish it would be a happier post.
I just inherited a 2001 Audi A6 2.8 QUATTRO 4DR AWD.
290,038km (180,221 miles) 95% highway.
Car drives fine, recently had a lot of work done (not by me) (including Oil level sensor which I have a feeling is the point of failure here).
Car runs and drives fine, oil pressure has been tested and is perfect. Yet after driving for a while red oil light comes in dash, when you press the button to the left of the display it says "Check Oil Level". Also to note oil temp is stuck at the bottom left. Doesn't seem to read at all.
When oil level is checked once the engine cools down, its fine and the colour of it is fine.
A friend of mine mentioned that he thinks it needs a ring job, but this doesn't sound right to me. The car is not burning oil, and runs perfectly outside of this light. Which literally comes and goes intermittently.
My plan of action currently is to verify that the correct oil level sensor is installed (I've read around that apparently a lot of people install a Meyle sensor instead of a Hella sensor and it can cause issues.)
I don't know that much about cars compared to the most of you most likely. If there is anything that can help let me know and I will post as much information as I can.
Engine sounds healthy, car runs quiet and well.
After the first snow fall of the year the ABS light also comes on at first but goes away after driving for a few minutes. I was told this is most likely a dirty sensor.
Thanks in advance and I hope I included as much information as possible
I appreciate any insight anyone has to offer.
