2001 Allroad Problems - Throttle Body or ?
Hi, All;
This is my first post here, and unfortunately it's relating to a serious problem with my 2001 allroad. It has the 2.7T engine and 6 spd manual. I had the alternator die a few weeks ago, and ordered a new one. I decide that I would also install an APR bi-pipe kit while I had the front of the car apart. The alternator install went fine, but the bi-pipe I received from ECS Tuning was the wrong one, and I had to abandon that swap part way through. Once I had the car back together, it started okay but idles very erratically and will not rev above 1200 rpm - basically the throttle is inoperative. My code reader is showing trouble codes 17581 (throttle position potentiometer sgn. 2 signal too high), 17952 (throttle actuation potentiometer signal too high), and 17987 (idle speed control throttle position adaptation not started). I also have warning lights for the EPS, ABS, and suspension, and I can't get the suspension out of jacking mode - I don't know if these are related to the throttle body problem or just another unrelated problem that happened at the same time. The only thing I can think of is that I somehow damaged the throttle body while trying to install the bi-pipe kit. It's a $200 tow truck ride to the nearest place that can service the car, so I'm trying to sort this out myself. My first thought is to order a new throttle body assembly, but I would like to eliminate any other likely causes before shelling out $700 for a new TB... any advice would be greatly appreciated! |
RE: 2001 Allroad Problems - Throttle Body or ?
you can't just replace the throttle body yourself... it has a control module in it. the control module has to be coded then adapted.
i don't even kno where to start w/ your problems... w/o knowing what codes are present. |

ORIGINAL: tHe kNiGHt FaLL i don't even kno where to start w/ your problems... w/o knowing what codes are present. I removed the throttle body from the intake manifold, connected it to the wiring harness, and it started the adaptation process each time I turned the key on. I reinstalled it, cleared the codes, and now it seems to be working normally. |

some reason i didn't see the codes... but still... like i said... the adaptation needed to be carried out.
