2003 a4 problems

so i posted this in the other section, but i figure i have a better chance of getting an answer here....

just got a 2003 a4 1.8 quattro, but for some reason this thing guzzles more gas than my old truck which was horrible. i've read these things are supposed to do 23-29 mpg on the highway, but mine isn't even coming close. anyone know what might be up?

and, my trunk keeps popping open every now and then when i drive. i'm not sure if its the computer, the remote, or the trunk itself?

Faulty sensors could cause poor mileage - otherwise, if you hammer the throttle those turbos can suck the petrol, but typically they are gas meisers.

As for the trunk it could be the latch, which is replaceable. Had a similar issue on my Jetta and just used some contact cleaner on the latch and its fine now.
