4.2 issues

2003, A6, 4.2.
Sluggish, sticking in 1st gear (while in drive, not tip) up to 4000RPMs then shifting. Also, brake lights staying on after car and lights turned off.
Yesterday, AWD (traction) light and ABS light came on for a bit.
Any guesses as to what the hell is going on?
Thanks any of you Techs or otherwise.

72K miles by the way.

RE: 4.2 issues

Thanks for response.
no on the brake and the brake light itself is not on. I thought that possible also.
Just went out and pulled the brake light fuse so battery doesn't run down. Maybe a bad switch ?? Could that cause ABS to come on?
Also, filled up at a Shell station I never use, yesterday. Used 93 Octane but my guess is that throttle might be sticking with bad gas. Maybe they put wrong one in. So, ran a bottle of high end fuel cleaner in there an we will see what happens. No check engine light during this entire thing.
