90s timing issues...

my lil bro has a 93 90s with the v6. we had a friend of ours do the waterpump on it n it seemed like everything was ok untill we went to start it. it turned over but wouldnt start...more then likelyhe didnt tighten the tentioner pulley on the cam belt because now i see all kinds of "whiteout" marks on the cams and the belt that dont line up. my guess is the belt slipped a few teeth. anyways... can anyone help me on how to "re-set" the timing? im a classic ford guy so i kno nothing about newer foriegn cars! i see the tdc mark on the crankshaft pulley but dont see any on the cam sprockets... any help is appreciated.

RE: 90s timing issues...

which engine is it? if its the 3.0 which sounds about right because you cant find the timing marks on the cams.. its because there arnt any. you have to line it up to tdc and expose the cams by taking off the valve covers. there are two cam holder then installed. one on each head.if memory serves me right, your looking for Cyl 3 exahust valves to be pointing strait up. the holder looks like a horseshoe, and at each end curves out. in that outward curve theres a grove that slides over a coresponding flat spot into each cam. the tool is then spread open locking the cams to eachother. sounds more complicated than it is. you just need the tools. if you give me the engine code and year i can get you more specifics. obviously that only pertains to the 3.0 engine, if its different i will definitaly need the engine code. VIN is even better.
