96 A3 engine rev problem
Hi all, have had the same problem now for some time. The engine idles perfect and has power. Its not too great with fuel economy. Problem is.. when i rev it, it revs up slowly and comes back to idle even slower ( maybe 6 secs from 3000 rpm). It only seems to do this when the engine is warm- with the engine cold, the engine can be revved up and settles down quickly with no problem)
It makes gear changes sloooooow and if the clutch is released before the revs have dropped the car jumps forward with the extra power. I tried changing the MAF, but did nothing. The previous car owner assures me the o2 sensor was changed not too long ago (maybe 6 months).
Any input would be great as I am at the end of my rope with this one

RE: 96 A3 engine rev problem
I was hoping to avoid bringing it to d dealer.
The throttle valve operates smooth and with the accelerator, no catching or sticking.
The plugs and filters were all done a few thou miles ago.
Vacuum leak....humm
Where and how would i find one? any tricks? any usual suspects?
Cheers Avant80!

RE: 96 A3 engine rev problem
I checked the pipes all are good, took awhile btw. Car doesn't appear to have a CEL, its not in the manual either.
i rechecked the throttle closing and noticed:
with the engine off the butterfly valve closes straight away without delay,
with the engine on it closes but at the last few millimeters it gradually closes slower.
This is the problem, but what is causing it....
Again any help is v appreciated!!
