Have a 98 A4Q 2.8V6 with an oil leak on driver side valve cover or cam seal. Can't tell which is leaking. The leak appears to be in the front of the valve cover. Is there a characteristic failure here of one or the other? Changing valve cover seal should be straightforward but not sure about the cam seal since at least the cam sprocket (or more things) would need to be removed.

Any insight into this failure? Happen to someone else?

Cam-adjuster gasket/seal could be replaced (together with valve cover gasket) w/o taking of the t. belt. Cam seals replacement involves t.belt disassembly. Cam seals rarely leak; installation looks easy but involves number of precautions and diligent workmanship. Very common: they will leak after a replacement.
