Default A4 1.8t idle issue

I'm looking at an A4 for sale, and the seller describes it as a very rough idle and car will shut off while driving sometimes. He has replaced the throttle position sensor, even replaced the motor. Sounds to me like the CCM, but can anyone confirm this for me? I drive a passat 2.8 V6 and am not too familiar with all these problems brought on by the 1.8.

Thanks.

Get the codes read. It could be a bad MAF.

He said he cleaned it and it ran good for 3 days, does this mean the MAF is not functioning properly? Seems to me it could be so.
