Is it possible to over fill an A4 automatic transmission, and if so, what do you do to keep from doing that. The books say that filling is a 2 step process: 1) fill cold until fluid comes out, and 2) run engine and fill (level) until fluid runs out.

 

Good question but I think I've read that the auto trans holds 4 quarts! Waiting for answer as well.

 

You need to fill cold, start and run till trans fluid temp reaches 32 degrees Celsius and then refill until fluid drips. You need some way to read trans fluid temp. If you have a Vag com it will give you temp but I have a OBD bluetooth that connects to my phone and it also measures trans temp. If your short on funds check ebay for a ELM OBD2 code reader and then download Torque app from you app store. The code reader you can get for $15 or less and the app is only $5. Also my tip trans in my B5 S4 took about 7 quarts or so when I changed the fluid and filter. GL
