hellperados has the right idea. I've done this now on a 2000 s4, 2004 a4 sedan, and 2004 s4 cab. they were all a bit different but same concept. best solution I've found that has worked for me on all three cars was getting the upper grill out first then using a coat hanger through that area toward the latch and look up from underneath with a flashlight and small mirror. you'll have to use the mirror to see where on the latch the cable normally releases. on most models the latch is for US or Germany so it will have two separate areas the cable can attach and be pulled( Germany runs along RH side of vehicle , US on LH side.) for example the 2004 S4 cab after removing the grill only had a few small holes on the RH side of the car so I used the release of latch for Germany side... it was by far the hardest one I've had to do thus far. the v8 really gives you no room to work from the bottom. I could barely see with the small mirror. hope this helps, good luck
