Default ABS and Parking brake idiot lights stay on

Hi, I recently bought a 1996 Audi A4 2.8 fwd and it seems to have a few problems... First, like in the title, one time when i was driving, out of nowhere the e-brake and abs lights came on and now come on everytime the car is on and they stay on. they aren't actually on because the car isn't breaking everytime i drive, its just the lights. so I'm wondering if it can be the fuses? but why would they both come on at the same time? i did try searching the internet but didn't find anything helpful. Thanks for the help in advance.

Does it beep at you when you start the car that's the sign of a failed ABS module.

Good chance you got one or more defect ABS wheel sensor .. you can find it for cheap online .. I had this issue before and it was cause because of bad abs sensor .. you can connect a vag-com to know exactly witch one causing the issue.

good luck

I agree with sadik666, it's ONE or more of your abs sensors on your wheels...VAG com will tell you which one. Generally on a B5 if the ABS module is bad, the parking brake light (as you call it) will blink while the abs light is solid.

I changed my rear pads yesterday on both sides, and one of the rear rotors. After I changed the rotor and pads on the driver-side, the yellow ABS-light came on from the moment I started the car and throughout the trip. Also, the red "hand brake" light started to blink red after approx 10 secs, throughout the trip (probably from the first time breaking). There are 3 beeps when the red light first appears..

During the replacements I didnt have any "oops"-moments which I think might have damaged any of the sensors. So my question is, does it have to be the ABS-sensor which causes the warning/indicator lights, or might it be something else?

Brake fluid level is ok.

And, do I even have ABS-sensors on my rear wheels? lol. I guess there are, but I didnt notice, or look for them to be honest.

1997, A-4, 1.6l, front wheel drive. <-- also lol.

DrGREVE,

3 beeps generally means abs module,or you cut/damaged/unplugged a wire somewhere (possible), or the brake fluid is low, or your sensor is really dirty and needs to be cleaned.......again, 3 Beeps with the flashing usually means module...

1st I would check brake fluid,
2nd the sensor you were working with
3rd ABS module (you can have it rebuilt, buy a used one, or pay the dealer a ton of $)

Here's a post on the ABS Module....

I'm assuming you have a VAG Com to scan it? If not, it's a wise investment!

Or, you can look in the forums for people in your area that have one...

Thanks, Ill try to look into it, but as I said the brake fluid level was a-ok. I probably did something with the cables I guess.

I recently bought a 97 AUDI and the passenger side back up light bulb went out.I disconnected the wiring harness and changed out the bulb but now the brake light warning stays on in the center screen on the dash.If one of you guys can tell me if i did something wrong and how to get the warning light to shut off id appreciate it. Thanks.
