Am I getting Screwed?

Am I getting Screwed?
I took my car to dealership for 80K maintenance. While it was there they told me it needed a new water pump and cam shaft adjuster (and a few other odds and ends). When it was all said and done, it cost me over $1,800. My understanding was that the reason this was so expensive was because they basically had to take everything out from under the hood. Two wks later, my car started missing, engine light came on, oil light came on, followed by a very loud noise. I had to have my car towed to the dealership to learn that my turbo is shot! Dealership claims this has nothing to do with the work they did and wants $2,500 to fix the turbo! My car is in regularly for its maintenance and is treated well, am I to believe this is a coincidence? I don't think so? How do I prove otherwise? Please help. I know nothing about cars, but I definitely feel I am getting screwed and am not going down without a fight!

RE: Am I getting Screwed?
how many miles did you have. waterpump is usually done with the timing belt and includes the tensioner and thermostat. at an independent shop its about 800-1200 and i thinka little less on 1.8t. the turbo ive heard does go out on these cars, though not often its very likely i had a buddy that blew both his turbo twice on his S4 when in stock form and then again in chipped. best thing to do go to an independent shop and have then do the job for less than 1000. or buy your own turbo and get it done cheaper. try gpopshop.com for refurbished turbos. like new but cheap.
