Audi 100 2.6Q High oilconsumption?
I've got a -94 Audi 100 2.6 V6 Quattro, it's got about 247 000km on it. My father bought this car back in 2001 with only 80 000km on it and I bought last summer with 240 000km.
Up until I bought the car there has never been any real trouble with it, and it still runs Great and is functionally impecable! Engine runs perfectly and feels as strong as always.
But it's started to consume alot of motoroil.. I swapped brand when I bought it to a "better" oil (Castrol Magnatec 10w-40). But this is starting to worry me.. the consumtion is increasing rapidly!
About 5000km ago I topped it with about 0.5 ltr (this after running 2000km since last oilchange) leaving it near "max" volume. 2000km later I put in about 1 ltr to get it in the middle of the level marks. 2000 later again it needed 1 ltr to get to minimum. And now after 1000km 1 ltr got me to minimum once again!
An oilbrand swap can cause consumtion to spike, but this is a little too much.. before I bought it it consumed let's say 1ltr on 10 000km..
There's no black/blue smoke and exhaustlevels are good (i.e CO, NOx etc. Got it MoT'd 2 weeks ago)
There's no traces of oil in the coolant or vice versa
There's no trace under the car from leakage, i.e. spots/pools on the ground.
Sparkplugs look white/grey and nice.
It's got a few smaller leaks, but those can't explain the consumtion levels.. (sump for instance is moist, but not dripping) The only thing I have noticed is that there's a small amount of oil under the intake manifold wich could point to a faulty headgasket.
My question here is. Can a faulty headgasket explain a consumtion this high without leaving more noticable traces? Or does anyone here have any other tips? Considering how well it runs I have a hard time beliveving that it's pistonrings for instance..
