Audi A4 fault relating to camshaft allocation

I have an 09 reg A4 which had an engine management light showing. On investigation by Audi garage, I was told it related to camshaft allocation. They removed the bearing bridge and accessed the chain on the engine which when inspected showed that the timing was out and consequential damage was caused to the chain guides, tensioner and bearing bridge. During testing the fault it was found that the cam chain tensioner has failed, meaning the chain has run out of time.

Feedback so far says that none of this should have happened on such a young car, bought at six months old from an audi dealership, driven as a family car with approx 80,000 miles on the clock.

I would appreciate any comments

Hi.
There was a cam adjuster recall that was released on the 1.8 and 2.0 l tfsi engines. It was to prevent camshaft damage/ failure and was for 08/09 model years. If it was still outstanding on your vehicle, you may have a case.

Thank you. I have definitely not received a recall since I have owned the vehicle. I appreciate the information.
