I am new here, but it seems like this forum is a pretty nice place to be

Well, I guess that I might start with what's troubling my ride (98mod 1.9 TDI). The thing is that my car suddenly started making a loud noise similar to when you partially block the nozzle on a hoover/vacuum cleaner. So it is like a loud suction noise that wasn't there the day before.

The engine behaves normally and does not seem to have lost power, but the loud suction noise is directly related to the turbo (appears around 1500 revs).

I guess that there might be a leak somewhere, but I know that I cannot spray "start gas" (right?) in order to find the leak on a diesel engine like I would on a petrol engine (diesel engines are totally new to me).

I guess that I will have to get it to a car repair workshop, but it does not hurt to try here first

Edit:
The noise is coming from the intake/turbo side of the engine and I've just checked that it is related to the turbo/intake by going downhill in gear and there was no noise even at 2500 revs.
