I'm hoping that there is a common problem that I am just not finding in search. My 97 A4 quattro 1.8T throws Gear monitoring - implausible signal code (the only code it throws for the trans). When it does this it goes into safe mode. The fluid level is fine, and there isn't excessive metal in the pan (there was some of the metal sludge stuff on the magnets, but just a normal amount).

I don't think it is related, but I know that some problems can cause other problems... It is throwing a code for the throttle body (can't recall which one, but the TB needs replaced). I have a TB ordered, but could that cause the trans to act weird and throw that code?

I just bought the car with this problem. The PO said he had the engine rebuilt and had trans issues ever since (none prior). All electrical connections are good at the trans.
