bluetooth phone system
I leased a 2006 Audi A4. It comes with the bluetooth phone installation. problem no person has been able to explain the system to me. If I get a bluetooth phone from the list provided by Audi do I need to get the cradle. or will it still work without the cradle. The cradle is 250$ and I am wondering if it is worth the expense
thanks

RE: bluetooth phone system
I have a similar question for the same car and phone system. According to the manual, I don't even need Bluetooth phone! I have Samsung GSM and I want to use it with the Audi phone system. Is it possible? According to the dealer, I have to have a compatible phone, but according to the manual I can use any GSM phone. Which one is true? thanks

RE: bluetooth phone system
If you have a cradle in the car, ANY bluetooth capable phone will suffice. However, for this to happen, you must have the Motorola V-60 phone module. The module will connect to the bluetooth in your phone and route it to your car through the cradle, which reads the module.
If you do not have any of this merchandise, I can definitely help you out.
Laws are coming into effect concerning certain areas in the United States that you must use hands-free cell phones while driving and communicating via cell phone.
If you own an Audi A8, you already know that a port in your center console already exists for this easily adaptable good-intentioned habit. However, with that port, two more items with which Audi is not supplying their customers are needed for the successful completion to the Bluetooth integration. Those items are:
Motorola V-60 integrator module
Correct eligible Audi console cradle
The Motorola V-60 module integrator is currently priced at $405.00 (shipping included). Audi uses a cradle that is compatible for the V-60 phone. However, depending on the manufacturing date of your Audi A8, an obsolete cradle may have been placed in the center console.
Any Audi A8 produced before 2005 is equipped with 4E0-862-407-A for the cradle. Any A8 produced during or after 2005 is equipped with 4E0-862-407-B. Refer to the sticker on the bottom of the cradle for current part number. If you have received the older cradle model, you will need to purchase the updated model. Unfortunately, 4E0-862-407-A cradle is obsolete as it is old technology. That cradle WILL NOT work.
In addition, Audi has stopped production of this cradle. Once orders meet the limited quantity, the cradles will no longer be available.
To successfully integrate the Bluetooth, we must program the module to be read by the Audi cradle (which will take about two weeks). We currently have both items in stock.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please call James R. Cooper at 614-937-0301 or Bryan L. Wright at 614-579-7409. We know that you will fall in love with this integration as a new feature to your car.

RE: bluetooth phone system
Any bluetooth phone MAY work with the vehicle as long as the vehicle is equiped with bluetooth. bluetooth is wireless so there is no hardware required. Some phones, and some service providers will only allow limited or no comunication with the vehicle via bluetooth. The compatible list is just those that audi has verifyed as known working models. Just dont forget the service provider part. The same phone from one service provider may work flawlessly while the same phone from another provider may not work at all. If you dont have bluetooth, things get more complicated, if you can image that. You need a phone that is compatible with the v60 cradle(if installed in vehicle) or a cradle that is compatible with your phone installed in the car. This will be hardwired to the car, so the phone must be in the cradle to be active witht he car. With bluetooth the phone only needs to be within 100feet or so of the car for it too work.
