Default Cam Tensioner pads

I have a 98 Audi, A4 2.8. I tried doing a gasket job on it and noticed plastic pieces in the head, found out them plastic pieces were tensioner pads. Would a broken tensioner pad cause random misfire, cylinder misfire 1, 2, 3 (all three cylinders are on same bank as broken pads)? And also is it possible that the broken pad may have caused timing to jump a little?
Please help ive had the car for about a month and always had this problem, i really want to see the full potential of this car lol. Thanks in advance...
