Check Engine Light i have the codes!!
 

2001 Audi A42.8 Q tip. 71K
I started my car this morning and let it warm up for about 10 min. When i first started it there was no light, but when i got in it to leave the light was on. I went to autozone and had the codes read this is what it said.
P0118
Engine Coolant Temp
Circuit High Input

Any Ideas? Thanks alot in advance.

Does your temperature guage droprandomlywhile you are driving? Could be a faulty coolant temperature sensor if so. They are easy to replace, and cheap too.

The temperature guage hasn't changed. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Maybe its worth seeing if it occurs again. If so, first port of call would be to swap out the coolant temp sensor. It's an easy diy job, and a replacement part is prob only around $10. If it occurs again, then its prob an issue with your electricals.

I have 2 temp guages one has only a C and H the other has a oil symbol and has acual degrees. i am guessing that the C&H one is for the engine temp, and the one with the oil symbol is the oil temp.
the C&H guage works fine. after the car is on for about 5 min the needle is directly in the middle and it stays there. now the oil one hasnt moved much, if it does move its only slightly above the lowest position.

However i havent noticed any dramatic change in eithor temps.
after the kid checked the code and i left autozone yesterday the light went off and hasnt come back on, is it going to come back on?
should i replace the censor now or wait for the light to come back on?

i'd wait for the light to come back on - it could be a temporary blip. But also be on the lookout for the symptoms described in the link provided above.
