Climate control blowing hot air
My 2001 2.0L A4's climate control isn't working. On days over 20c the climate control will blow hot air. When the car is travelling at over 60kmh the air starts to get cold and on a long trip seems to be fine. Took the car to airconditioning centre and they say the problem is faulty fan engine and quote $1100 au for new part. I don't think that this sounds right as fan is still working and when weather is cooler clicks up and down. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Climate control blowing hot air
the clicking is the compressor clutch engageing and disengaging which sound normal as the compressor comes on only above a certain temp(32F i think). i can think of 2 things, your low on refrigerent which may also explain the clutch coming in and out(it did on mine when i was low in refrigerent) that or the orafice tube is clogged with something and only allowing some refrigerent to pass, although im fairly sure its just that your low on refrigerent from what you say. If you have a low side adapter on your car( under the windshield you can fill it up with a store bought R-134r can.
