Is a code thrown if small coolant leak?
Have 2014 Allroad 2.0 turbo. with 26,000 miles. Would a code show up if there was a small amount of coolant on underbelly pan? The coolant level maintained steady after adding @ 1/2 cup antifreeze and driving 300+ miles. The temp gauge never showed anything but normal. Would a code show that water pump needed replacement? |
The thermostat may throw a fault if it sees something it shouldn't but if the water pump starts to leak which they do on the 2.0t it will not necessarily trigger a code or CEL.
Inspect with a flashlight on the driver side of the engine from up top.... you can see some of the block and water pump. Still under warranty? it's probably about a $800 job at the dealer. |

Quick other question: Fuel line and fuel pump replacement also suggested to avoid car from becoming harder & harder to start. Is this common on 2.0 w/turbo too? I had not noticed this problem so declined this “detection suggestion.” |
is the coolant getting low? if so how often do you have to add?
fuel pump and lines are not a common replaced part. I haven't had to replace many of those. should be good for a long time. Hard start? battery ever been replaced? I only see on average the vehicle battery lasting about 4-5 years. When you get a new battery too it has to be coded to the car otherwise some systems may not work well and the vehicle will think it still has a bad battery until told otherwise (coding) What exactly happens during the hard start? |
