A cold air intake just puts cooler air into your engine and a cool engine is a happy engine! Good for a few ponies and a cool whooosh sound too!

Cold air intakes don't really help performance on Audi engines. The Audi airbox is very unrestricted. There is typically more restriction in the MAF and throttle body. They only really serve to increase engine/turbo noise.

Try the Dar intake, it just mods the stock box and supposedly dyno's better than the Evo. I fouond this photo album that shows it off real well. Easy to do. Going to do mine soon: http://public.fotki.com/LI-S4/cars_a...ods/darintake/

Here are the basic instructions I found too: "use about a 3.5" long 3" diameter exhaust pipe. Go to home depot, and get a 3" ID 90degree rubber plumbing elbow, 2 3" clamps. You can make two rubber bump hoses from the one elbow. Use a little epoxy to seal it well to the air-box. File the air box nub inside just a bit, and you're done."

interesting jest, cause i just have a cone attached to the intake system and the day i put it on, i noticed a huge difference in performance. it actually pulled through redline whereas before there was absolutely no performance at high rpm.

a standard high flow filter put in the stock airbox delivers similar results. but glad it worked for you.

Yeah I noticed my throttle body was plastic today. (lol) Think I can change it out? Be one tight mod if I could swing that.

evoms sells a 2.8 intake.
the colder the air the denser it is, meaning that there are more 02 molicueles to fuel the flame!
