A4 1800 motor/gearbox interchangeabilityinterchangeability Q?
I have two A4 B5 1800's with gearbox problems. (1995 & 96)
And I can get a 2004 A4 1800 with a ruined motor.
I'm wondering if the engines are interchangeable?
I can get better part numbers tomorrow.
I also have as 1985(?) 80 1800 with a manual gearbox. I don't think that gearbox will replace a 1996 A4 B5's Auto gbox.
But, can it?

We'll I decided not to get the 2004, and got a 2001 with a "Blown head gasket". Lol.
Lol. because it was not a blown headgasket, it was a broken water pump belt.
Also the public records for that numberplate stated it was a ATT engine..
Double checking I find the ATT is a 5 cylinder 2.4 or something..
Turns out it was a typo and is a APT. Good thing about the belt because its a 'drive by wire' electric throttle not a 'Bowden cable' throttle
