Does changing the oil pan require changing the oil pump?
Hi,
I'm new here and posted this question in the Q7 forum, but then I found this forum and maybe it is better to post here? Sorry for the double post....
I have a new 2017 Q7 with a pierced oil pan. My local Audi shop is telling me that Audi requires that you replace the oil pump when replacing the oil pan. That sounds awfully strange to me but I'm new to Audi. Does this sound right or are they trying to milk for more money?

Might not be a bad idea. The pickup for the oil pump does have a screen on it but smaller debris can get through and damage the gears or scratch grooves into them area where the pump gears ride and it could cause a failure later down the road. The oil doesn't go through the filter until after the pump. Was it run dry?

I guess it was about half dry when the warning came on the dashboard that I should shut off the motor. I was on a slight incline and could then see plenty of oil streaming down the street. So I'm hoping there is no motor damage.
Further discussion with the Audi shop tells me that Audi sells the entire assembly as a single unit. I'm an old car guy so while it seems bizarre to me, I guess that's the way things are now. But what is really strange is that an SUV has an oil pan that appears to be made out of aluminum. It looked like someone took a knife to a beer can. I would advise anyone who has a Q7, and probably a Q5 too, to never, ever take it off road.

Damn... You figured they'd have skid plate for that aluminum can set up...... What the hell did you hit? If you shut it off immediately when the light came on, I would say it would be fine.
A single assembly? Never seen that before. How many arms and legs are they asking?
