drivers seat strangeness

I have just bought an Audi A3, in England. so standard UK spec, 1.8 SE and the drivers seat appears to not be rigid, as in when I stand up out of the car is raises a little. When I sit it's perfectly comfortable and the controls to adjust it all work as expected. I wondered if this was normal or theres a catch come loose somewhere maybe? I very vaguely remember reading something about this somewhere but cannot for the life of me remember what it was or where.
If anyone knows anything about this it'd be nice to know, the only problem I can see with it is if it's damaging anything, or in an accident it'd add the weight of the seat to the seatbelt loading which might cause an issue.

RE: drivers seat strangeness

ok an hour of poking proding and pulling with a torch hung upside down in the car I've worked out the part of the mechanism that was bust, looks bent, fixed it temporarily, but will havr to go back another day.
