Electronic Lock-up
If for any reason you radio has been electronically locked up - for example if the battery has been disconnected or the radio fuse has blown- the word SAFE will appear in the display when the radio is switched on.
Cancelling the electronic lock-up
To cancel the electronic lock-up, you must enter the correct code number.
It is essential that the following steps be carried out in the correct order.
1. Turn on the Radio - the word SAFE appears in the display.
2. Press and AS and RDS buttons simultaneously and hold them until "1000" lights up on the display.
3.Release the buttons. Do not, under any circumstances, continue to hold them down or press them once again. The would cause the radio to consider the number "1000" to be the input code number.
4. Use the stations buttons 1,2,3, and 4 to enter the code number on your Radio Card (the code number recorded in the Radio Owner's Manual - Dave).
Use the 1 button to enter the first number (pressing it until the correct number is displayed above it - Dave)
Use the 2 button to enter the second and so on..
Buttons 5 and 6 are not used.
5. Once the correct code is showing on the display, press the AS and RDS buttons again simultaneously and hold them down until the word SAFE appears again on the display.
6. Release the buttons. Soon afterwards, radio frequency will appear on the display and the radio can now be used again.
Incorrect code number
In an incorrect code number is entered inadvertently when cancelling the electronic lock, the word "SAFE" appears in the display - first flashing and then continuously.
You can now repeat the entire canceling procedure once more. The number of attempts will be shown on the display.
If an incorrect number is entered once again, your radio will be locked out for approximately one hour. The radio will not play.
After one hour has passed - the unit must remain turned on and the key in the ignition - the number attempts will stop being displayed and the electronic lock can be canceled as described above.
The cycle- two attempts, one hour lock-up, still applies.
Note: if you lose your Radio Card with the Code Number, contact your authorized Audi dealer. (You will need the serial number of the radio in order to get the code - Dave)
