While driving and fuel getting low(almost in the red) I felt it sputter while taking off from a complete stop. So I thought it might be the fuel injectors clogging up and put some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank with some more gas. It worked for a while until I started getting low again and it did the same thing. I figure it might be the fuel pump then the engine light came on. I tried filling up my tank and it stop sputtering but now the engine light won't go off. I tried unhooking the positive cable on the battery to reset it but that didn't work either. Is there anything else I can do to reset this or does anyone know what caused this to happen?

 

The way to reset a code that is no longer tripping is to start the car. After around 7 starts the computer should shut the light off only if the problem is fixed. Audi uses some seriouse fuel pumps and filters so it is rare to have a problem with those. Of course its not great to constantly run the fuel low because it raises the sedement ratio going into the engine. But with gas $3 bucks and up what are ya gonna do? It is possible the treatment you put in losened up gunk and sent it down system to cause another problem. Try chevron with Techron. Its a synthetic system treatment and is one of the best so no need to mention its not cheap. If the light persists have it hooked up to a cpu and get the codes. Audi is one of the best OBC in the industry and will tell you whats going on! Good Luck!

 

Its also possible your gas gauge is reading incorrect. You may just be running out of gas.

 

Okay I went AutoZone and they hooked up the computer and the code I got was the #1 cylinder was misfiring. They said either spark plugs or wires or the coil switch. I started with new spark plugs. After i installed the new plugs (need long extension for socket) I didn't have the problem anymore and the engine light is out. Now for the next project, changing the wheel bearing on the passenger side. Its starting to get very noisy and wearing out the brake shoe really fast compared to the driver side brake shoe.
