engine noise in 2005 A4 3.2

Having a strange noise coming from engine ( or possibly trans.) on audi A4 3.2. The noise is almost like a burr or ratteling chain noise that starts at about 1800 rpm and continues through about 2300rpm in every gear ( 1 throuhg 6). Despite the noise performance does NOT seem to be impaired. Had it at the Audi dealer 2x they changed the cam chain adjuster on both sides and it did nothing. The dealer says that Audi USA has a similar car with the same problem and when it is fixed they will call me. I get the stragne feeling that I may never get the call. I only have 12K mi on the car so I am still within warrentee. GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP OR INSIGHT. Dan

Tought to tell without actually hearing it, but theres probably a bad timing chain tensioner on the rear of the engine somewhere.

i could be the actuator for the vavle timing.

Thanks for the reply. Actually the Audi dealer replaced both chain tensioners in the back of the engine. THey had the engine out of the car 2 times. They still cant figure it out. I am thinking that it may be the valve timing or possibly in the tranny.
