Engine oil leaking
I'm getting a huge dump of oil leaking onto my exhaust at high rpm's especially on an incline. It doesn't happen all the time only occasionally, like it stores up then pukes it out. Any ideas on this? Could it be the mainseal? When I bought the car two years ago the seller told me that the dealer he used advised him to watch the mainseal.
my advice , with the engine cold put a white sox on your hand and sweep the engine exactly behind the valve covers, there is a round seal in both sides if you audi is an A4 2.8l quattro, this 2 seal they get cracked when they need to be replace, what I did I cleaned the area very well and sealed from the out side with clear RTV and its being over 3 years and still good. If this is the problem just put a lot a let it dry for 1 day and you will not see any oil getting out,. Also the oil that you see on you exhaust is because when this happend, the oil drop goes exactly on the manifold connection with the down pipe and it can get inside your cat and damage it. I hope this fix your problem, I am not a mechanic but my audi makes me one.
Interesting. I too have been seeing stains of about the size of a quarter up to 3" diameter in the driveway, and getting a faint smell of oil on exhaust while driving. I haven't been able to pin point the source. These 2 seals to the back of the valve covers are towards the firewall? I will dig around today and try to find them. Good hint! I'll let you know if this was the source of my oil leak.
