Wilkommen to the forums!

scan for codes

there are multiple sensors that could be causing your issue. first step is always scan to see what codes are coming up. otherwise you could spend a lifetime trying to guess at the problem.

also, it helps to know what year and engine when you ask for help ;)

good luck. hope you get it sorted

Ok its a 2001 1.8 petrol engine a3.... where do I look for the codes?? how do I obtain them??? (im guessing its on the dash) but what do I need to do to get them up???

Or is it simply a case of the expensive job of hooking it up to vag'com computer?

thanks

yes. but it need not be expensive. a lot of the chain auto parts stores here in the States will hook up their reader and scan your codes for free. their readers aren't equipped for the Audi computer system but they will be able to read may of the DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes). Write down the codes and post them and I'm sure someone will be able to tell you what they mean.

good luck
