Default Fob Malfunction?

I went to start my car (2007 S6) with the switchblade fob. I inserted the key into the ignition and turned but nothing happened and I cannot remove the key. Car is basically shut down - no electrical, cannot shift out of park, cannot open trunk (even with my back-up set of keys). Any ideas what it could be?

You said no electrical... sounds like a dead battery, or short circuit. It's '07, should be under warranty, have dealer pick it up.

It was the battery but lesson learned - when the battery is dead (a) key is inoperable, (b) gear stuck in park, (c) battery is in the trunk but only way to access the trunk is by folding down rear seats and crawling into trunk and pulling release, and (d) jumping the battery is not recommended - use the contacts in the engine compartment. Thank God the car wasn't locked.
