Default Funny Squeak Noise when Cold

NEWB Question.

I've had my 1997 A4 2.8l Quattro for almost a year. This is the first winter I will be driving it so I am looking forward to some snow.

Anyway, it just started getting cold here in WI (-2 this morning) and I am hearing a funny squeak noise from the rear of the car. I can't seem to pin point it. It's not the brakes (I don't think). It only happens when it is cold out, never heard it in summer. Starts squeaking at about 5-10mph and above and gets less noticeable when the car warms up. I am thinking it may be a bearing, but not sure.

Any idea's?

Thought of that, but not it. The noise does not go away when either the brakes or parking brake is applied. It is extrememly loud at first when the car is cold, but gets quieter when you drive for a while.

And yes, -2 is cold

another one, is the dust cover touching the rotors. this causes this scraping/high pitch noise and dissipates at higher speeds?

It is definately not a belt. It's coming from the rear of the car.

I will check the dust cover to see if that is it, but I got a feeling its not. It is a Quattro, so maybe it has something to do with the rear drive system at the wheels. Is there a bearing that could cause this? Thats kind of what it sounds like.
