Default Is this a gear box Prob?

Hi Guys
I have an Audi 2002 automatic. I have a gear box issues I cant explain, please advice.

In traffic when I try move off, and accelerate, the car wont move, and then suddenly jump forward and drive, other times it stalls. On long trips it drives fine.

Any advice what Issues am I having?
Thanks

When it won't move, is the engine RPM increasing when you press the gas pedal? If the engine RPMs are not increasing when you press the gas, it's an engine problem, not a transmission problem.

If the RPM's go up and the car doesn't move, it means the trans is slipping. Not good but it may be a fixable issue if they trans hasn't been damaged. I'd try a fluid and filter change on the transmission. It could be something as simple as being a little low on fluid or the filter is getting clogged and cannot flow enough fluid to the lock up the clutchpacks inside. I'd have a shop that deals with German cars (not necessarily the stealer...er...dealer) about doing fluid change. It may run couple of hundred dollars because the filter kit and fluid will run a $120 by itself.
