Default Got some funny noises

Hey guys, im new to the whole euro scene. I just bought a 97 2.8 A4 quattro, i recently changed the oil in with Mobile 1 full synthetic. After that im getting this ticking sound when i start it and when in gear. I think it might be the lifters, if so am i pretty screwed. What can i do? Or is there something else it can be. It drives fine, and the timing belt and tune up have just been done. Anyone experience this before or know of any solutions, any advice will help, lol minus telling me to sell it and buy a 1.8t.Thanks

whats the mileage? what oil did you put in ( 0W40) or something like that? it might need something like 5W30-40, it also could just need a good run to get things working well and get the oil round

dont worry too much, ive noticed in my car that when i start i get the ticking noise, its just because older engines need thincker oil for more cushion for the pushing. once the oil warms up and the viscosity gets a bit thicker the noise should go away.

its probably the fact you use synthetics oil, probably lower mileage then allaboutquattro and my car, a nd it was probably better maintained, its just something ive noticed on this A4 and the 20v 90 i had that once the engines get old the lifters start to tick on cold starts than quiet down once warm. this isnt the problem on all cars, i had another 96 a before this one it t was a 145k mile gem without a single issue.

EDIT: the noise may also be from the injecors, ive notied that their pretty noisy compared to my first car, a honda

I have 95K miles on the car and before I got it it was not treated so well. Wrong coolant, AC delco plugs/wires. It is now treated with the correct care.

there is a difference between a tick and a rattle

tick could be injectors pulsing,

rattle now you need to be sure on this and try to locate exactly where its coming from

exhaust heat shield very common and a pain I used to remove them but some disagree but its your choice ( the bolts rot like hell and the shield vibrates ), a tick I can live with but a rattle especially when a job has been done and a result of that job I cant live with
