My car is a 2015 A6 Quatro with the V6 engine. It's been fine for two years but starting yesterday the GPS is making an intermittent pinging sound. It sounds like a warning chime of some sort but there is no warning message or visual indication of what the chime is signaling, nor any way I can see to turn it off.

It's definitely associated with the GPS because if I leave the GPS off it doesn't happen. It sounds like of like the sound of sonar from a WWII submarine movie. It pings perhaps ten times then stops, then a minute later does it again. Then after perhaps ten or fifteen minutes it stops altogether. But then after a half hour or so it starts again. I thought perhaps it was trying to signal something such as turn coming up but there is no obvious pattern.

Does Audi push out updates to the MMI software via the satellite connection? Have they perhaps updated the GPS in some way not discussed by the manual?

 

Definitely sounds like you're being shadowed by an enemy sub.. LOL

All I can say is consult the Operators Manual if you haven't already. These newer cars are just too damned interconnected with outside sources for my tastes.
