Hard starting 2006 A4

I am a first time poster.

I have a 2006 A4 with the 2.0T with about 80K, I have owned it since 50K with no issues. The other day it started to start hard, had to turn it over two or three times. Then the check engine light came on and a day later it went off, sometimes it starts hard and sometimes it's ok?? It runs fine and ideas on what it could be? I like to do all my own work if I can. I have the Bently DVD for it, but not a code decoder.

Thanks in advance for your help

Jeff

Thanks for the info and opinion. I'm a bit concerned about the oil sludge problems that the turbos have had in the past. I had a 2006 A4 turbo and at 30K had to have the engine replaced due to oil sludge, still under warranty thankfully. Has Audi corrected the problem? If so, would consider the 2.0T. I did test drive one and it was very nice, quieter than the earlier models and smooth.

Rumor has it to look at the RPM sensor(crank position sensor) first.

Ok, I have a new symtom, over 3000rpm there is no power. The car still seems to be running fine but there is significant power loss??? Could this be the cam folower and fuel pump, got a warrenty letter for that a while ago...
