headlight brightness issue
okay, i've been doing some research on the forums and my problem is still not solved...
here's the issue. i bought it used. when the light we on, it didn't illuminate 3 feet in front of the car. the fog lights shine brighter and better than the headlights themselves. i thought it was the crappy headlights so i ended up getting some silver stars. no better at all. fog lights are STILL brighter so i ended up getting some PIAA purple tinted headlights to at least make them look better (by brother bought them, i wouldn't spend money is i knew it wouldn't help) still didn't make them brighter, just made them look a bit purple and a bit cooler, but not brighter. my headlights(the outside lens) are clean and not yellow so that's not the problem. i was thinking that maybe they are HIDs that the previous owner put regular light in them to not shell out the cash so i'm not positive if they're regular halogen or HIDs.
the lights don't warm up (at least not that i'm aware of cause they're not bright and i basically drive with my fog lights) however, they turn off immediately, as do my fog lights. (they don't dim out when i turn them off) i was under my hood monday doing some other stuff and i was looking around the headlight area and i saw that the wires from the headlight lead to these metal or aluminum tube like things bolted on the inside of my fender i believe. are those possibly ballasts for HIDs or am i just being hopefull or what? they are REALLY dim and i can barely see anything at night with them and my long lights shine GREAT! i don't think that it's the angle of the lights but even if i did try to fix it, i don't think it'll help very much. PLEASE! help me out. i almost hit a kitten the other day! (hitting the cat doesn't bother me, but i don't wanna hurt the paint job!) oh, and a biker, but the bike will hurt my car even more. :-(
