HELP!! Oil Pan Gasket/Seat Replacement
2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro
Audi is trying to charge me 440 to change the seal to my oil pan. Could anyone give me directions on how to do it myself, and if there are any special tools i need...
Also on a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to do myself, they are saying they have to remove the whole "compartment" to get to it, thats why its so expensive.
Also, would anyone have a soft copy a Repair manual for this Make and Model.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

RE: HELP!! Oil Pan Gasket/Seat Replacement
dude, if you had a 2.8 it would be easy. you don't and its not. you have to raise engine or drop subframe. its not something you wanna try as your first project. you can search this too for more info.

well is it the lower oil pan or the upper oil pan, if it sth eupper part you need to remove the subframe and some other crap but im pretty sure if its the lower oil pan you can just loosen the sway bar and go from there. still though messy and complicated job.

Upper and lower? I am currently in the process of trying to pull my pan. As far as I know, I only have one (1.8T 2001 auto quattro) I was able to get the pan loose, jacked the motor about 4 in, but still can't get the pan to clear the frame.
I guess i need to drop the frame down. Can I leave the rear frame bolts in and just pivot the frame down? Do the struts need to be disconnected?

RE: HELP!! Oil Pan Gasket/Seat Replacement
Duburban,
I also need to replace by lower oil pan as it had a very small crack and the previous owner fixed it with JB weld..I know, crazy...how do you replace the lower oil pan on a 2.8 V6 Quattro? Is it as simple as it looks? By looking at it, it will just required removing around 20 bolts around the pan. Is my assumption correct? Something that I should look for in order to make the job easier?
Thanks

^^ you are correct, you need to remove the 2 brackets that hold on the sway bar and just move it out of the way, then teh 20 or so bolt and it should come off with a few malet taps, assuming oyu dont mess up teh metal gasket you can just replace the pan otherwise you need to remove the oil pick up tube which is again 16 bolts soaked in oil and pop it off too before you pull off the gasket.

i would, you never know when its gonna fail so you may as well, just remember from experiece working on my car after i got the pan off i had a bi!ch of a time getting off the oil pick up tube and even harder time screwing it back on, not to mention even if you let the oild drain for a half an hour with the pan off its still gonna drip.
