Hot air all the time

I have a 1997 Audi A6 Quatro. Once the car warms up it only blows out really hot air from all the vents. It doesn't seem to matter what the temperature control settings are or even if I have everything turned off - it's only all hot air all the time. The engine does not overheat and according to the guage, the temperature stays exactly where it should be.

I live in a small town without an audi mechanic. I took my car to a shop a while ago to find out why the check engine light was on (this was before the hot air problem) and I was told it was "vaporative" and I did not have to worry about it. The mechanic turned off the check engine light but it came back on the next day. A few weeks later the hot air problem started.

Any ideas on what could be wrong or what I should check?

Ever find out what the problem was?

I am having this same problem with my 97 A4 Quattro 2.8L. I am sure there is a good charge on the A/C and the clutch and fan are engaging like they are supposed to be. All of my flaps are moving so I have defrost and vent etc. But I am not getting any cold air out of mine either?
