How to Locate Gear Oil and re-fill it?
Dear All,
I need a clue where to find the Gear Oil Gauge (to see the level) on Audi A4 1997 1.8lt ? Recently my car is having gear problem (jerking) and I want to see the gear oil level, may be its already low and re-fill it. So anybody have an idea?
Please..please..please...
Thanks,
Yus

that may not be the problem, but if you just want to locate the drain/fill for s!its and giggles.its right under the tranny, you cant miss it. its the one bolt you dont have a tool for. you can get it on ebay for 20-30 bucks. as for the fill plug its a 17mm bolt behind the driver side front axle. you can find it by feeling around. BTW this is only good for a manul. there is also a post with pics in the DIY section.

it's an auto tranny...
the real problem is everytime i run the car just about 5 sec it couldn't run smoothly and it's like too hard to change to 2nd gear, more over if i run the car without warm up it will be difficult to run, but if i warm up the car for more than 15 minutes i could run the car better, i always check beneath the car and there is no leak at all except water may be from the AC.
if as you (avant80@2.6) said that it's filled for life then i have to change the gearbox?[:@] ugh BIG money... but any body experience with this problem? will it be better if i change the gear oil only?

the jist of it is the same but look up other forums for correct amount to put in. royal purple or mobil 1 synthetic automatic gear fluid is the oil of choice.
