Default IGNITION SWITCH STICKING

I have a a6 1995. The ignition switch sticks like it is binding a bit. When I start car I have to turn it back a bit so starter stops & all electrics work.. I sprayed with wd 40 & seems worse. My question is this the electric part that has the spring back in it or the cylinder I need to replace. Or any other ideas before my woman burns the starter out. She's not to fast turning it back enough. thanks guys.

Most likely its the electric part that is broken. Thats where the spring is at.

Had similar problem in 95 Cabriolet. It was the switch and it does have the spring in it. About $45. Parts guy at Audi dealer claim this is happenning because of heavy key rings with alot of keys and junk on them. It was still just a bit sticky after replacement and would spring back appropriately, but I can tell that the steering interlock shaft is probably a bit worn. That would be a nightmare of a DIY job!

Its not so much a factor of heavy keys as it is the fact its made of plastic. Not a very strong plastic at that.
