Insturment Lights Replacement

Insturment Lights Replacement
I have a 1997 Audi A4
The insturment lights are failing one by one.
How difficult is it to change them? Do you have to pull the insturment cluster or can you reach them from below?
I have a service manual, but it does not cover this subject.

RE: Insturment Lights Replacement
You must pull the instrument cluster.
Pull up on the trim piece above the steering wheel column. It just pulls off. Underneath is two philips screws, remove them. The cluster will wiggle out about 8 inches or so. Now you should be able to reach your hand back behind and get the plugs off the back. They can be a little tricky so be careful. Use a flashlight if you have to. The light bulbs are very specialized. You'll need to pick them up from the dealer. Make sure they sell you the ones with the bases included.
