Intermittent Misfires...
Hi -
Since Oct 2007, I've been experiencing intermittent misfires in more than one cylinder amid other check engine light triggering problems. Here's a breakdown: Check Engine light - car sputters and shakes - when given gas, doesn't move much, just sputters and shakes...this is about once a month. Light flashes while sputtering and shaking - stays solid orange after the episode subsides. Catalytic Converters - Both of mine were running under the efficiency threshold and were replaced by Audi free of charge under CA state law. I was hoping my check engine problems would stop but I should have known changing the cats wouldn't stop my sputtering and flashing check engine light issue. I had new spark plugs put in in March 2007. Have not changed or checked coil packs yet. Any other suggestions on what to check out? I'm gonna go get a code read again today but it will probably just say "intermittent misfire" again. My Specs: 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro V6 Manual Transmission 72K mi Input appreciated. |
Misfires confirmed (DUH! That's why I was there!)
Replaced bad coolant temp sensor...again...I just had this done... Coil packs and spark plugs are fine. Confirmed by Audi. I am convinced this light is going to come back on...then what? |
What Year/model? From the look on your profile pic I think it is a B5. On the 2.8 there is a vacume hose that must be moved to change the plugs, It is a tough plastic and located behind the coil, If that line is broken it might cause those errors.

Hey - it's a B6. I love it so much. I'm like a mom wanting to fix my kid...hehe
2002 A4 3.0 Quattro V6 6speed Manual 70k mi 2nd owner. Purchased Mar 2006 Clutch replaced March 2008 (orig driver must have sucked) 2 catalytic converters replaced this month- both were operating under efficiency threshold. Done free per CA state law. New coolant temp sensor (x2) Current issues; -intermittent cylinder misfires. New spark plugs march 2007. Coil packs and spark plugs checked and appear fine. New coolant temp sensor in March, and again dec 08 after drive up from SF to Seattle in snow/ice. (Kicked ass in snow and ice regardless. -sun roof does not always stay flipped up. Spontaneously comes down. Electrical or dial issue? (I have been told this is the dial) |
