Default 06 A6 3.2 simple oil change..BS!!!

I wanted to do a simple oil change at a friends local garage on Sunday..had the filter and Mobil 1 0-30 and put her on the rack and then I realized the whole front end under the engine is protected with a cover. Question..has Audi eliminated/discouraged most owners from changing their own oil? I don't have a shop manual so even finding the friggen oil canister was damn near impossible but I found it..but at that stage I just gave up and take it to the the Audi shop. They must pump the oil out of the dipstick, I can't imagine taking that plate off underneath just for a "simple" oil change. I tried to find a Haynes or Chilton for this 3.2 and got no where?

I'll bet ya the German forums/owners have a system..I mean at today's shop rates. Any help/links/direction will be gladly accepted, how are you shade tree's doing this.

have you tried taking the cover off?
My roommate does my oil changes and said that mine wasn't hard to get off and yeah it needs to be taken off to change it. There were 6 screws in the front and a few more in the back, unscrew them and it should just slide off.

lmk how it goes.

Dude.. real simple to take that off - several 1/4 turn screws. Its not there to keep you from changing your oil. And, finding the oil filter is fairly easy too...

I found a WIX filter NP, but I'm wondering if Audi pumps the oil out of the the dip stick rather then remove the bottom plate..that's not a new method.

Ok, can I get a walkthru? ..it looks like I'll need to remove the windshield washer container but mainly I just don't want to make a massive mess out of this.

I would have assumed the same but it looks like the A3 3.2 filter canister is changed from the bottom..a better design IMO but I'm sure the A6 had a reason for putting it on top..I'm just not sure what it is. BTW, thanks for the link

Default removing valve cover gasket (ist post)

I do not know where to enter a post/question so I attached to this thread.
I have a 1996 a6 2.8 (not quattro) the driver side valve cover gasket is leaking oil 225000 miles. I see 6 allen bolts, two small mounting bolts toward the steering wheel end of the cover and an oil breather tube connection. i can't seem to get the connection off and don't want to break it. Does anyone have any ideas or is there a special tool to remove it. On the passenger side it pops off by simply sqeezing and it appears to be an o ring seal. thanks
